VP of Engineering

Are you a technology executive with substantial interest and experience building agentic commerce tech? Do you have experience working at the intersection of big data, AI, and the complex world of ad tech and commerce? We’re looking for a VP of Engineering to own the technical roadmap for our platform that is revolutionizing the digital commerce ecosystem.

About Affiliate.com

Affiliate.com is a fast growing data and technology company that is revolutionizing the digital commerce ecosystem. We help power the AI and agentic commerce, search, social, and affiliate commerce activities for thousands of publishers, including AI businesses, content sites, browsers, shopping assistants, creator platforms and more. Affiliate.com integrates with over 20,000 merchants and every major affiliate network to help our publisher partners promote over 1 billion products around the world.

Affiliate.com’s founders have collectively achieved over 15 exits as operators and investors, and have deep operational experience in e-commerce, affiliate and performance marketing and ad tech.

The Opportunity

As Affiliate.com continues to grow, we are seeking a dynamic and results-driven VP of Engineering to take our tech operations and decisions into the next phase. In this role, you will direct all of Affiliate.com's engineering team and will report directly to the CEO. As a hands-on leader, you will architect and lead the development team in building the systems that ingest, normalize, and distribute commerce data to power our platform offerings for AI platforms and publishers around the world. You will also lead the development of new AI-powered features, from initial design and model selection to production and deployment.

You will be responsible for building robust data pipelines that ingest data from tens of thousands of merchants, normalize disparate data formats, and prepare the data for distribution through our search platforms and APIs. This role combines AI, data engineering, directing frontend & backend development, and commerce technology to ensure our customers have access to high-quality, searchable and monetized product data.

  • Partner Across the Organization: Work closely with the CEO, business development and operations leaders to align technology investments with strategic objectives and customer needs.
  • Represent Technology Externally: Serve as a thought leader in the AI commerce industry, representing the company to partners, investors, enterprises, and the broader tech community.

Experience and Background:

  • Big data at scale: Has personally architected systems handling billions of records. Not "worked on a team that did this", owned the architecture decisions.
  • E-commerce or product data experience: Has worked with product catalogs, variant/SKU models, pricing data, or marketplace data at scale.
  • Affiliate Marketing: Deep knowledge of the affiliate marketing industry, including direct experience with the major affiliate networks.
  • Low-latency data serving: Track record of sub-100ms API response times against large datasets. Understands caching strategies, query optimization, index design, and data locality at a deep level.
  • ETL/Pipeline design: Has designed high-throughput data ingestion pipelines. Understands batch vs. streaming trade-offs, backpressure, idempotency, and failure recovery.
  • Database expertise (polyglot): Deep experience with multiple database technologies; relational (PostgreSQL), document/search (OpenSearch/Elasticsearch or Vespa), key-value (Redis/DynamoDB), and ideally columnar or distributed SQL (SingleStore, ClickHouse, or similar). Knows when to use what and why.
  • Search engine architecture: Experience designing search systems at scale; indexing strategies, relevance tuning, hybrid search (keyword + vector). Ideally has worked with product/e-commerce search specifically.
  • AWS experience: The stack is primarily on AWS. You must be fluent in the relevant services (RDS, S3, ElastiCache, OpenSearch Service, Lambda, ECS/EKS, Kinesis, etc.).
  • Observability and monitoring design: Has designed monitoring systems that provide real-time visibility into distributed data pipelines. Understands the difference between metrics, logs, and traces. Has experience with tools like Datadog, Grafana, CloudWatch, or similar.
  • Language-agnostic pipeline design: Can recommend the right language for data processing workloads (Python, Go, Rust, Java) independent of what the application layer uses (PHP/JS).
  • Data modeling for analytics: Can design storage that supports fast analytical queries (aggregations, distributions, time-series) alongside operational queries.
  • Cost optimization at scale: Understands per-query economics and can design systems where cost scales sub-linearly with traffic.
  • Chrome extension / browser extension architecture: Experience shipping or leading development of Chrome extensions, including content scripts, service workers, and the Manifest V3 constraints that govern them (nice to have).
  • Strategic vision: Ability to define long-term technical product roadmaps and translate them into actionable, high-impact execution.
  • Confidence and conviction: Can walk into a room, present an infrastructure investment case, and make the leadership team want to fund it.
  • Startup temperament: Thrives in a company where things move fast, context shifts weekly, and "that's not my job" doesn't exist. Comfortable with ambiguity and competing priorities.
  • Communication: Can explain complex technical architecture to non-technical leadership in terms of business outcomes, cost, and risk.
  • Proven leadership: 10+ years of experience in engineering leadership roles, including success scaling technology organizations to global impact.
  • Operational excellence: Experience delivering secure, scalable, and mission-critical products.
